    Lesson bookings can be made either through the SDS website, phone call, messages, Google or social media viz. Facebook, Instagram. You can choose your preferred timing when using the SDS website.

  • What are the costs of a driving lesson?

    What are the costs of a driving lesson?

    $50 for 45 mins.

    $60 for 60 mins.

    $85 for 90 mins ( On Special)

    Special offer on your 1st Lesson. $45 for 45 mins or $58 for 60 mins. 

    You can directly talk to the instructor as to which package will suit your requirements.

    You must have a valid & current Learners Permit or Overseas Licence.

    You can pay by cash, credit card or debit card on the day of your lesson. Direct debit to our SDS business account option is also available. If you are opting for a package deal, the full price of the package must be paid on your first lesson. 

    Package and gift voucher deal expires after 12 months and 6 months respectively from the date of purchase. Package deals are fully refundable. Refer to SDS refund policy.

  • Can I choose my Instructor & time that’s suitable to me?

    Yes to both questions. We have Male & Female Instructors. We mainly speak English but the majority of the Instructors can speak other languages like Hindi, Punjabi, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada etc. 

  • What type of cars do you have? Can I use my own car?

    What type of cars do you have? Can I use my own car?

    Most of our cars are the latest model Toyota Hatchbacks Hybrid vehicles with reverse cameras, sensors & add-on to help & assist you. Our cars are fitted with approved dual controls by certified Engineers. 

    We can provide the lessons in your car, provided your vehicle should have a primary speedometer that can be viewed by the instructor at all times. 

    Your vehicle should have a centrally mounted handbrake accessible to the Instructor.

    Your vehicle has to be road worthy. 

    We will take all precautions but will not be held liable for any insurance policies,  Work-cover & Public Liability.  

    Our preference will be to use the driving school car for the lessons, which can be used in the drive test as well. We will accompany you on the Drive test along with the VicRoads assessor sitting in the back seat behind the Instructor. We have a very good working relationship with all the VicRoads assessors.

  • Can I use my own car?

    We can provide the lessons in your car.

    Your vehicle should have a primary speedometer that can be viewed by the instructor at all times.

    Your vehicle should have a centrally mounted handbrake accessible to the Instructor.

    Your vehicle should be in a roadworthy condition.

    We will take all precautions but will not be held liable for any insurance policies, Work-cover & Public Liability. Also your Instructor will not be allowed to accompany you during your Driving test if you choose to take your own car for the test.

    Our preference will be to use SDS car for the lessons, so that you can take our car for the Driving test. Your Instructor will be allowed to accompany you during your Driving test. The VicRoads LTO ( Licence Testing Officer) will sit at the back seat behind the Instructor. We have a very good working relationship with all VicRoad Assessors.

  • How many lessons do I need before going for my driving test?

    We understand everyone has a different learning ability. We will be able to assess you in your first lesson. There is no minimum number of hours required by VicRoads if you are over the age of 21. If you are under 21, you must complete 120 hours with 20 hours of night driving with an Australian full licence supervising driver. 

  • How do I select the best driving school?

    We honour & respect all the other Driving Schools. Just ask them the following questions -

    • Apart from Cert4 Driving Instructor accredited, do they hold Cert4 in TAE ? If not, then, they are only instructors. They will not have the skills to Assess & Evaluate their students. SDS holds both Cert 4 Certified.
    • How long have they been teaching? SDS since 1991.
    • Owner Operator or Company? What back up plans they have in place if something happens to them or their vehicle. The majority of the Instructors in SDS are Owner Operators.
    • Are they open 7 days & flexible with their times ? SDS - yes to both. Upon request we work outside our schedule & on public holidays.
    • How do they Assess, Evaluate, Measure & Record students progress ? SDS always has students coming from other driving schools & sharing their experiences. We do not compromise on our quality standards. We do have our own methods to record, access and evaluate the student progress which is discussed with the student at the end of the lesson. The feedback given is strictly confidential and not shared with anyone outside.
    • Is there any Cancellation policy and/or refunds ? Certain companies require 24 hours cancellation notice. Also there is no refund policy. SDS requires 4 hours cancellation notice prior to the start of the lesson.
    SDS Package & gift voucher deals expires after 12 months and 6 months respectively from the date of purchase. SDS Package lessons are fully refundable.  The number of lessons taken and a $5 office charge is deducted from the total money paid for the lesson. Refund is either paid in cash or direct debit to customers nominated account.  

  • I’m very nervous about my driving lesson or driving test. Do you offer refresher courses?

    We have been in this field since 1991. Most learners are very nervous in their first lesson. We are very polite, patient and professional instructors. We also offer mock drive tests before your actual driving test that helps in building confidence for the actual drive test. 

  • Do I come to your office, VicRoads office or specific meeting place?

    Do I come to your office, VicRoads office or specific meeting place?

    Customers can choose the meeting place. You can start the lesson from your house and finish at the same place you started. Or you can choose a pick location and drop off location that suits you. The lesson time will start once you start driving and it will conclude after the duration you have selected.

  • What are my chances of passing the drive test?

    We guarantee you in passing the drive test in your first attempt if you follow the rules and procedures and drive the way we teach. 99% of our customers have passed their drive test in the first attempt making us proud.

  • What is the duration of the drive test?

    The total duration of the drive test is for 30 minutes. It has 2 stages. Stage 1 is local streets where you are asked to perform a three point turn or reverse parallel park. Time allocated for stage 1 is 10 minutes.  If stage 1 is cleared, you proceed to stage 2. Stage 2 is main road driving. Time allocated for stage 2 is 20 minutes.

  • Can SDS book my drive test?

    Yes, we can book your drive test. If you hold an overseas licence, we need your customer number to book your drive test at VicRoads. If you hold an Australian learner permit card, we need your permit number to book your drive test at VicRoads. 

  • Can I cancel my driving lesson?

    Yes, you can cancel your driving lesson. You need to notify us regarding the cancellation at least 4 hours before the start of your lesson. Please refer to our Cancellation Policy for further details.

  • Can SDS help me in preparing for the Learner Knowledge Test and/or Hazard Perception Test?

    Yes, we can. We can help you in understanding the road rules and help you in preparing for the learner knowledge test. We have many links that will help you practice all the road rules you need to know to pass the Learner Knowledge Test.
